De-escalation and
Effective Communication
Recognising subtle clues that indicate a person is escalating is crucial for effective intervention and de-escalation. These early signs may manifest in various forms, such as changes in body language, facial expressions, or tone of voice. Paying attention to verbal cues, such as an escalating volume or the use of more aggressive language, can also provide important insights.
If we aren’t sure what to look for and we don’t recognise those early warning signs, our personal safety, and that of others, can be at great risk.
Our de-escalation training program is distinguished by its mental health focus and trauma informed approach, placing a profound emphasis on equipping individuals with the skills necessary to navigate crisis situations with sensitivity and understanding.
Participants are guided through scenarios that mirror real-life situations, fostering a heightened awareness of the strategies and considerations involved in de-escalating tense encounters. Our training model not only gives important insight into understanding how an escalated person may be thinking and feeling, more importantly, we delve deeply into our own psyche, behaviours and responses, giving participants the best chance possible to manage conflict without it resorting to physical violence.
Our highly experienced team including Aboriginal Cultural Consultants, Mental Health First Aid Instructors, Psychologists and Social Workers, ensure by merging mental health principles with a clinical framework, our program not only promotes the safety of individuals and communities but also contributes to fostering a compassionate and supportive environment in the face of emergencies.
This training has been delivered throughout the Territory to workers in retail, security, hospitality, remote communities, mental health and many more, with continued outstanding feedback and results.
Our clients appreciate that our team are locals providing relevant and practical strategies, and who understand the unique challenges we face in the Territory.
